Proficiency in English a necessary skill


THE beginning of a new year is always a good time for reflection, hence it was timely of president of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman to remind that “’English proficiency (is) a must’” (The Star, Jan 1: online at https://bit.ly/3tFzRfe).

Citing the findings of the 2021 MEF Salary Survey, he said the “top five skills that employers place importance on when it comes to newly-hired graduates were oral and written communication, critical thinking, English proficiency, interpersonal skills and flexibility or adaptability skills.
