Penang must diversify water resources

PENANG will most likely be facing a dire water shortage problem in the near future. With its two neighbouring states, Kedah and Perak, facing problems supplying more water to meet its needs, Penang must now act more proactively to be self-sufficient.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PWSC) has been taking things too easy all these years, and has become dependent on Kedah for its raw water supply. Placing all the eggs in one basket is a dangerous thing to do, so it must now come up with plans to be self-reliant and self-sufficient in its water resources.
