THE nation was saddened by the death of Tun Arshad Ayub who passed away on Tuesday; he was 93.

Many see Arshad as a rare breed of civil servant. As the first director of the Mara Institute of Technology (ITM), now known as Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), he left behind a legacy in higher education that most would find hard to match. [He held the post of director from 1967 to 1975.]
