Committing to zero occupational accidents and diseases

VISION Zero is a strategic mindset that is based on the belief that all occupational accidents, injuries or diseases are preventable. Sweden was the first country to implement the Vision Zero approach more than two decades ago in a bid to eliminate road traffic accidents, thereby preventing fatalities or serious injuries.

Realistically speaking, zero is an aspiration. The process of achieving Vision Zero is more important than meeting the zero target. The zero accident approach is ambitious and often takes time to materialise, as multiple factors (such as road conditions, vehicle speeds, driving behaviours or other human factors) typically interact in a complex manner, leading to potential loss of precious human lives.
