MALAYSIA celebrates two national days, National Day on Aug 31 to mark its independence from colonial/foreign rule and Malaysia Day on Sept 16 to celebrate the coming together of three nation states, namely the Federation of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak.
While the government does attempt to observe these two important dates with events, and having declared both as national public holidays, the honest reality is that society’s response to these two significant dates is discordant.
