Worried about Malaysia’s debt

FORMER British prime minister Liz Truss landed herself in serious trouble following the announcement of a tax-slashing economic strategy by her finance minister on Sept 23. The tax-cut budget rocked Britain’s financial markets, which led to her resignation on Oct 20. She was in office for just 44 days, the shortest-serving premier in British history.

Will Malaysian Members of Parliament reject proposed tax cuts like their British counterparts did? The rakyat will be watching our elected representatives closely when the proposed Budget for 2023 is tabled for debate in Parliament after the 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19. Many voters, especially the young ones, are wise enough to understand that generous cash handouts and tax cuts aren’t healthy for the country’s financial well-being in the long run.
