THE Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) is deeply saddened by the landslide at Batang Kali, which killed more than 20 people at a campsite on Dec 16.

The landslide scarp started from Jalan Batang Kali-Genting Highlands down to the campsite. Based on video footage and images from the media, the estimated landslide run-out distance from Google Earth is approximately 500m, and the total slope height is approximately 80m.
