Making asset declaration meaningful

KUDOS to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for expressing his cynicism about the asset declaration process recently, saying the declaration of assets by politicians had devolved into a farce. He has shown sincerity and is gaining my respect and admiration.

First and foremost, we must establish a Parliament select committee (PSC) on asset declaration. Politicians (both government and Opposition), top-level government officials including those in GLCs and GLICs and top officials of private companies must declare their assets to this PSC. Declaration of assets must also be mandatory for their spouses, children, parents and relatives.
