Pros and cons of price floating policy


I REFER to the report “Prices of chicken, eggs to be floated after June” (The Star, Feb 22; online at https://bit.ly/3EyIH3b).

Even though it may be favourable to the poultry industry (artificially low product prices vs exorbitant feed prices) and the government (Note: the government allocated RM1.2bil or roughly US$280mil for food subsidies, including chicken and eggs), a thorough study has to be done before a hard and fast rule on floating prices is implemented.
