A call for safer workplaces

THE theme of this year’s World Safety Day (April 28), “A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work”, emphasises the rights of workers to speak up when their workplace is unsafe or puts them at risk while carrying out their duties.

In Malaysia, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) reported a troubling total of 6,719 occupational accidents in 2022, with 413 cases resulting in death or permanent disability. These numbers are alarming and reflect the urgent need for improved workplace safety measures.
