Valuation of property trumps assessment rate discount

I REFER to the report “30% discount on new assessment rate” (The Star, Dec 4). At first glance, the news that property owners under five local district councils in Johor will be given a 30% discount when they pay their assessment rate for 2024 sounds good.

But there is a nagging question: Will there be some form of uniformity in the collection of the assessment tax whereby the same type of houses will be charged a standard rate? Or will it be at the whims and fancies of valuation officers?
