Hoping for Mutiara LRT to be operational by 2030

I REFER to the report about Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s comments concerning the Penang LRT project, “Penang LRT project specs come under federal purview, says Loke” (The Star, June 11).

When the minister said “the state government has no locus standi to announce the specification” of the LRT, I felt slighted as a Penangite. The remark sounded high-handed because the LRT project was initiated by the Penang government for the people of Penang. The Penang government secured the necessary approvals before the Federal Government announced it would foot the bill.
