NOWADAYS, reports of mistreatment and poisoning of stray animals are regularly appearing in social media, often causing distress and anger among animal lovers, animal welfare organisations and the general public.

Last year, there were 29 instances of dog poisoning in Island Glades, Penang. All the dogs died. At Brown Garden, Gelugor, five dogs were found dead under similar circumstances.
