Adopt inclusivity as a norm

THE call by Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah for membership of the country’s armed forces to not be limited to Malays should be welcomed, “Sultan Nazrin: Duty to defend country must be shared collectively” (The Star, Sept 22).

Speaking during the 42nd Officer Commissioning Parade for Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) cadets from public universities at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, His Royal Highness said that due to the diverse composition of the nation’s population, it is essential that the duty to defend the country from external threats is shared collectively.
