A GROWING chorus of teachers, schools and education experts are calling for a return to standard national examinations such as the UPSR (Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah) and PT3 (Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3), citing concerns about the implementation of classroom-based assessment or pentaksiran bilik darjah (PBD).

Many argue that schools and teachers are not adequately equipped to handle the demands of the PBD system as it requires a significant shift in teaching and assessment practices. Critics point to the lack of clear guidelines, inconsistent implementation and the potential for bias in teacher assessments as major challenges.
