Improving the performance and transparency of GLCs

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently stated, “‘No bonuses if GLCs don’t perform’” (The Star, Oct 23; online at bit.ly/4eQx8EA). I believe this is a necessary and bold move to instil accountability in the management of these entities.

Arguably indicating a need for improvement, the government recently decided to audit 2,000 GLCs (government-linked companies). This should not be a one-off measure but a long-term regular commitment, as I believe it is a positive step towards greater transparency and oversight.
