How to improve data collection on people with disabilities in Malaysia

MALAYSIA’S government declared Oct 20, 2024, as National Statistics Day (MyStats Day) with the theme “Statistics is the Essence of Life”. We commend the government for this and laud the increased sharing of data via OpenDOSM (Department of Statistics Malaysia).

In December 2024, the DOSM released data on persons with disabilities (PwDs). This is a welcome pioneering DOSM endeavour to bring together data on PwDs from various sources, in a variety of areas, including population, health, education, employment, income and expenditure, welfare services, and sports.
