We need a broader definition of e-commerce


ON Dec 18, 2024, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil called for an investigation into TikTok users regarding missing funds from e-commerce accounts. Subsequently, eight major social media and messaging platforms were identified as platforms subject to social media licensing.

The recent amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Regulations 2024 and Communi-cations and Multimedia Order 2024 require Internet messaging services and social media service providers with eight million or more users in Malaysia to apply for a class licence under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
