Critical points to consider in issue of overloading


I REFER to the report about the Transport Ministry’s proposal to review the relevant laws in efforts to address the issue of overloading of heavy vehicles, “Transport Ministry to focus on tackling overloading of heavy vehicles” (The Star, Jan 6).

Having a deep understanding of the complexities involved in this issue, I have reservations about Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s suggestion to impose “liability on the consignee (buyer), who may be responsible in the ecosystem for the offence.”
