THIS is an open letter to President Prabowo Subianto.
As an Indonesian, I am deeply disappointed to see forest fires continue to devastate Sumatra and Kalimantan. How much longer must our people breathe toxic smoke, with children and the elderly struggling to breathe, while families lose safe places to live?
What about our wildlife, losing their homes with nowhere to escape? Forests are burning, lives are being destroyed, and we seem to keep repeating the same mistakes.
At the same time, earthquake victims are still living in tents under terrible conditions. How much longer must they wait for proper homes and a better life?
Mr President, the people do not need empty promises or words of sympathy. They need real action. Protect our communities, save our wildlife, stop the destruction of our forests, enforce the law and make sure disaster victims are not forgotten.
Indonesia is a wealthy country. It is heartbreaking that a nation with so much wealth cannot guarantee its people clean air, decent housing, and the protection they deserve.
I love Indonesia, but loving our country does not mean staying silent while the same suffering continues.
Mr President, this is not just about natural disasters. It is about responsibility. The people are waiting for action, not excuses.
