PETALING JAYA: One can trust Nidzam Jamil to always give his best whether as the interim or head coach of Selangor.
Selangor are on the hunt for a new coach with club chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Johan Kamal Hamidin confirming that a decision would be made this week, with three foreign coaches and one local coach being shortlisted.
Many believe Nidzam, who has been the club assistant coach since 2021, is on the list.
The 43-year-old is now the Red Giants’ interim coach for the second time after Tan Cheng Hoe left the team to join Thai club Police Tero.
His first interim stint was in 2022 when German coach Michael Feichtenbeiner ended his stint.
Nidzam said he was not clamouring for the hot seat and would leave it to the club management to decide.
“I’m not doing anything different even as an interim coach. I’m still giving the same energy and focus,” he said.
“I’m the same old Nidzam Jamil whom all the players have known since 2021.
“Right now, Selangor need someone to lead the team and I’m doing just that.
“I’m just following through the programme given by Cheng Hoe before he moved to Thailand.”
Nidzam said they have accepted and understood Cheng Hoe’s decision and it was time for them to move forward and prepare for the AFC Champions League Two.
“We have respected his decision. It is my job now to ensure everyone is in the same direction during the pre-season.
“We had a one-week stint in Thailand, which had helped the team to bond.
“Everyone in the team knows what their roles are for the new season.”
