PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur have what it takes to accomplish their best Super League finish this season, says chief executive officer Stanley Bernard.
The City Boys are in eighth in the table with 11 points, and Stanley sees them taking the fight to the top five clubs.
“I am proud of the club in the league. We are low on points due to the deduction, but we are still sitting in a place where we can fight the top five teams,” said Stanley.
“Even without the six points, we are doing okay. Of course, we would be doing better if we had those points, but my forecast is that this will be our best finish in the league.’’
Kuala Lumpur had six points deducted due to inaccuracies in the club’s documentation and for submitting incorrect information regarding their contributions to government agencies such as LHDN, EPF, and Perkeso.
With new leadership at the helm of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) with Syed Yazid Syed Omar as president, Stanley said he sees the energy that is brought in.
“I can feel the energy. He has been campaigning for a long time, and together with our club patron Fahmi Fadzil, they want a new face and energy in KLFA.
“We have seen that the past three to four years, there have been results but there have also been things lacking.
“It’s good for me that the new leadership has set targets in terms of what they need from phase one and so on.
“I can see that they are quite excited to get KLFA and the club to another level,” said Stanley.
Stanley added that since he has been at the club since 2021, the club have successfully stayed in the Super League.
“When I joined in 2021, I targeted Kuala Lumpur to be a Super League team. Before that, they were sometimes in the Premier League, even the FAM Cup.
“Now Kuala Lumpur are seen as a very elite team, and that’s also the challenge, to maintain the competency level that is high,” he said.
