The men's recurve team failed in their bid to emulate their female counterparts when they crashed out in the first round of the Olympic Final Qualifiers in Antalya, Turkiye on Saturday.

PETALING JAYA: The men's recurve team failed in their bid to emulate their female counterparts when they crashed out in the first round of the Olympic Final Qualifiers in Antalya, Turkiye on Saturday.

The Malaysian trio of Syafiq Busthamin, Danish Amsyar Norazlan and Zarif Syahiir Zolkepeli were beaten 0-6 by Indonesia's Riau Ega Agata Salsabilla, Alviyanto Bagas Prastyadi and Arif Pangestu in the first round of elimination.

Malaysia were ranked 22th spot after the qualifying rounds with 1,922 points and were pitted against 11th seeded Indonesia (1,961).

It is a brutal affair in the men's team recurve competition with 48 nations fighting for three Olympic quota slots at stake.

The Malaysian archers will now compete for the individual quota spots on Monday.

On Friday, Ariana Nur Dania Mohd Zairi, Syaqiera Mashayikh and Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil earned a historic Olympic quota slot in the women's team recurve event after they emerged runner-up behind Hangzhou Asian Games silver medallist China.
