KUALA LUMPUR: High jumper Lee Hup Wei created history when he became the first Malaysian to qualify for the final at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The 32-year-old from Selangor, who competed as a wild card, soared to a personal best of 2.29m to finish ninth among 31 participants at the Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday. Twelve jumpers advanced to the final on Friday.
