Making heads turn: Mohd Azeem Fahmi shattered the national 100m record when he sprinted his way to 10.09 seconds in the heats of the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.

PETALING JAYA: The medal slipped away by a mere 0.2 seconds but teen sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi’s phenomenal performance in the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, was as good as gold.

The athletics fraternity took notice of Azeem’s huge potential when the 18-year-old shattered Khairul Hafiz Jantan’s national 100m record of 10.18 seconds (set at the 2016 Malaysia Games) when he sprinted his way to 10.09 in the heats on Monday.
