PETALING JAYA: Shereen Samson Vallabouy set another milestone in her career when she smashed G. Shanti’s 25-year national women’s 200m record in Memphis, United States on Friday (Aug 4).

Shereen clocked 23.33s at the final of the Ed Murphey Classic to erase Shanti’s old mark of 23.37s set at the Asian Athletics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan back in 1998.

The Ed Murphey Classic event saw Nataliah Whyte of Jamaica winning the 200m event with 22.76s while American Talitha Diggs (22.83) and Favour Ofili of Nigeria (22.94) finished second and third respectively. Shereen finished fourth with her new national mark.

With the feat, Shereen now holds two national records after she had also set a new mark in her pet event, the women’s 400m, by clocking 51.80s at the St Mac Relays in California in April this year.

The late Rabia Abdul Salam held the previous 400m record (52.56) set at the 1993 Asian Championships
