Zaidatul smashes G. Shanti’s 31-year-old 100m national record

Zaidatul Husniah clocked 11.49s to win the women’s 100m final race at the Perlis Open, erasing G. Shanti’s national record of 11.50s set back in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.

PETALING JAYA: G. Shanti’s 31-year-old 100m national record in Malaysian athletics is finally broken.

Zaidatul Husniah clocked 11.49s to win the women’s 100m final race at the Perlis Open today, erasing Shanti’s national record of 11.50s set back in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.

31-year-old Zaidatul represented Malaysia at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro previously and has finally achieved what many tried but missed over the last three decades.

In 2017, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli did run 11.36s in a competition in Pretoria, South Africa, but her time was not recognized as a national record because it was wind-assisted.

Shanti won the 100m and 200m at the Jakarta SEA Games in 1997, becoming the only Malaysian woman to claim the sprinting double so far.
