Spain’s Marin is first woman to win the world singles title three times

Joyous moment: Carolina Marin of Spain celebrates after defeating P.V. Sindhu of India in the women’s singles final at the World Championships in Nanjing yesterday.

SPAIN’s Carolina Marin declared she’s back to her best as soon as she destroyed India’s P.V. Sindhu to become the first women’s singles shuttler to win the world title three times.

In a rematch of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics final, the 24-year-old world No. 8 outplayed Sindhu 21-19, 21-10 in 45 minutes in Nanjing yesterday to deny the latter’s dream of becoming the first Indian world badminton champion.
