Japanese Olympics star calls it quits

Quite a pair: Ayaka Takahashi (front) and Misaki Matsutomo created history for Japan when they won the country’s first gold medal in badminton at the 2016 Olympics.

PETALING JAYA: Another Olympics gold medallist has called it a day. This time, it’s Japanese women’s doubles ace Ayaka Takahashi.

The 30-year-old joins fellow champions Lin Dan of China and Tontowi Ahmad of Indonesia on the list of illustrious stars who have hung up their racquets in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
