Rashid: We can overcome Japan due to recent retirements of doubles aces

Datuk Rashid Sidek - Filepic/The Star

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Rashid Sidek believes Japan will need to ride on their singles’ strength to contend for the Thomas Cup trophy when the team tournament gets under way in Aarhus, Denmark, on Saturday.

Rashid, who is a member of Malaysia’s Cup-winning side in 1992, said the depth of Japan’s squad has been severely affected by the recent retirement of doubles aces – Hiroyuki Endo, Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda.
