A real bummer

Good start: Goh Jin Wei and Ng Tze Yong warmed up nicely in the mixed team event with a 5-0 rout of Zambia.

DEBUTANTS Ng Tze Yong and Goh Jin Wei’s objective of battling for medals look bleak if the men’s and women’s singles draws are anything to go by. Tze Yong, a replacement for world No. 5 Lee Zii Jia, has been drawn to meet top seed Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the last eight.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) player is not expected to be troubled in the earlier rounds by unknown shuttlers but the possible quarter-final clash against the world champion would be a different cup of tea.
