Badminton: Malaysia breeze past Kazakhstan 5-0 in Asian Mixed Team Championships


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian shuttlers secured an easy 5-0 win over Kazakhstan in their second match in Group B in the Asian Mixed Team Championships on Wednesday (Feb 15).

Women's singles player Wong Ling Ching, who was making her debut in the team meet, strolled to a 21-6, 21-13 win over Aisha Zhumabek to give the team the first point at the Dubai Exhibition Centre.

In the men's singles, Leong Jun Hao, who was also making his maiden appearance in the tournament beat Dimitry Panarin 21-12, 21-16.

Then, women's doubles pair Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee brushed aside Nargiza Rakhmetullayeva-Kamila Smagulova 21-7, 21-7 to give the team the third decisive point.

Men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik thrashed Khaitmurat Kulmatov-Artur Niyazov 21-5, 21-17.

In the mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei completed the rout with a 21-9, 21-10 win over Makhsut Tadzhibullaev-Aisha.

Malaysia will take on India tomorrow at 9pm in their final group match to determine who will finish top of the group.
