Valeree believes juggling act will serve her and mixed doubles partner well

PETALING JAYA: National doubles shuttler Valeree Siow (pic) believes she and partner Yap Roy King have a lot to gain from playing double roles.Valeree has been playing in the mixed doubles with Roy King for about four months.

She teamed up with Go Pei Kee in the women’s doubles while Roy King was named as Wan Arif Wan Junaidi’s new partner earlier this month.

Arif partnered Mohd Haikal Nazri for three years and reached No. 47 in the world rankings before the latter was teamed up with Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

Despite having to juggle both roles, Valeree said it will not be a problem for them because they are both used to competing in two events.

“I can accept my partner playing in two events and I believe it is only fair that we both do so,’’ said Valeree, who will compete in both doubles events with Pei Kee and Roy King in the upcoming Thailand International Challenge from March 7-12.

“I don’t feel pressured because I’ve been doing this for a long time and stamina is not an issue for me.

“Both of us competing in two events will be beneficial for us because we can gain more experience, learn more on the court and apply that experience to our partnership.’’

Valeree has been forming short partnerships with different players but is hoping that her current partnerships will be permanent.

Low Yeen Yuan, Myisha Khairul and Lee Xin Jie were Valeree’s former women’s doubles partners.

Valeree had the experience of playing with Arif, Loo Bing Kun, Wyman Goh Wai Yap, Gan Jing Err, Ooi Jhy Dar, Beh Chun Meng, Roy King, Chen Tang Jie and Chan Peng Soon in the mixed doubles.

“I didn’t have many thoughts or feelings about changing partners because I’ve been experiencing it for a long time and have gotten used to it.

“We (Valeree-Roy King) had a brief partnership before (in 2021). Now we’re back together.

“I’m hoping that neither of my partnerships will be brief. Hopefully, we’ll be able to perform well and produce good results.”
