Pearly-Thinaah bow out in German Open semi-finals

PETALING JAYA: National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah's run in the German Open came to an end after they went down fighting to top seeds Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida of Japan in the semi-finals late on Saturday (March 11) in Mulheim.

Heading into the match, world No. 6 Pearly-Thinaah did not have a good record against world No. 2 Matsuyama-Shida as the former have only beaten the latter once in eight meetings previously.

Pearly-Thinaah though, gave the Japanese pair a real scare, especially in the first game before losing 22-24, 13-21 in 42 minutes.

With their defeat, Malaysia's challenge in the tournament came to an end.
