World No 8 Yew Sin-Ee Yi have a tricky task in the second round against Indonesia's defending champions Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana.
In the mixed doubles, independent pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also made it into the second round after edging Indonesia's Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas 21-19, 21-18.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing will face Japan's Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo for a place in the last eight.
