Yeen Yuan hopes to revive career, starting in Phnom Penh

PETALING JAYA: Low Yeen Yuan (pic) is hoping to get her career back on track by impressing in the SEA Games in Cambodia.

National women’s doubles player Yeen Yuan has been struggling to nail down a permanent partnership after seeing her five-year combination with Valeree Siow come to an end last year.

The 21-year-old had been paired with Vanessa Ng for a short spell before she was combined with Lee Xin Jie in March.

The 19-year-old Xin Jie had only been promoted to the senior squad last November.

Now, Yeen Yuan and Xin Jie are set to make their debuts together in the biennial Games.

The Games will only be Yeen Yuan-Xin Jie’s third tournament together after the Vietnam and Osaka International Challenge in March.

The pair did not go beyond the second round in both competitions.

Despite not hitting form immediately, Yeen Yuan has vowed to go all out to get a medal in the Games with Xin Jie.

“We will give everything to try to get a medal,” said Yeen Yuan.

“I feel that we have done alright so far. We are still trying to find ways to make our combination better. Our rotational play and attacks need to be more firm.”

Yeen Yuan was pleased with her preparations for the Games so far.

“We have been working hard in the gym and on court to get ourselves in the best shape possible for the Games,” said Yeen Yuan.

“Everything has been going well for us so far.”

Yeen Yuan-Xin Jie will be leaving for Phnom Penh with the rest of the team on May 6.

The team event will be held from May 8-11 while the individual events will take place from May 12-16.
