Su Yin in two semi-finals but all over for men’s doubles

Sister act: Cheng Su Hui and Cheng Su Yin advanced into the semis.

IT was joy for the national women’s doubles pairs but despair for the men in the SEA Games in Cambodia.

Twin sisters Cheng Su Hui-Cheng Su Yin were the first to book their spots in the semi-finals after beating Singapore’s Heng En Xiao-Elsa Lai 21-12, 21-11 at the Morodok Techo badminton hall in Phnom Penh.

Su Yin had also reached the last four in the mixed doubles along with Yap Roy King after easily sweeping aside home pair Vath Vannthoun-Lim Kimloung 21-5, 21-3.

“I’m happy to reach two semi-finals but I’m not satisfied yet as I want to go further,” said Su Yin. “I’m a bit tired after playing in two events for two days but I will give my all to reach both finals.”

Su Hui-Su Yin will face second seeds Meilysa Puspitasari-Rachel Rose of Indonesia for a place in the final.

In the mixed doubles, Su Yin and Roy King will next take on Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Phataimas Muenwong.

Low Yeen Yuan-Lee Xin Jie also made it into the last four after a hard fought 13-21, 21-19, 21-19 victory over Thailand’s Chasinee Korepap-Pitchamon Opatniputh.

Yeen Yuan-Xin Jie have a tough task next though against top seeds Febriana Dwipuji-Amalia Cahaya of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s doubles is over after the exits of Beh Chun Meng-Goh Boon Zhe and Chia Weijie-Liew Xun.

Chun Meng-Boon Zhe went down 16-21, 18-21 to Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul while Weijie-Liew Xun fell 19-21, 18-21 to Singapore’s Nge Joo Jie-Johann Prajogo.
