PETALING JAYA: Lee Chong Wei says he is honoured to be recognised following his induction into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame.
He was responding to Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat who questioned Chong Wei’s induction into the Hall of Fame along with China's Lin Dan last week.
In a video, Taufik said Chong Wei had not won a World Championships or Olympics title and did not merit the honour.
Chong Wei, however, did not want to be dragged into the Indonesian's controversial comments.
"I didn't ask anyone for the honour,” said Chong Wei.
"BWF appreciated my achievements and I'm honoured to be recognised."
Chong Wei had been one of the most consistent players in the world circuit and his rivalry with Lin Dan over decades brought much joy and excitement to the fans.
He had held the world No. 1 ranking for an incredible 349 weeks and had captured a whopping 69 titles.
