Badminton: Zii Jia needs to be more confident, says Tat Meng

PETALING JAYA: Confidence is the key for Lee Zii Jia to regain his best form, says Wong Tat Meng.

The independent men's singles shuttler's new coach officially started his job of guiding Zii Jia on Monday (July 3).

"Zii Jia needs to have the confidence to do well," said Tat Meng in a video interview released by Zii Jia's team on Tuesday (July 4).

"The public believes that he can make it, so he needs to think the same.

"He has the talent to succeed, but he needs to learn to handle the immense pressure that comes with being at the top.

"I will help him to get better at this, not just on the court."

Tat Meng also shared that he will come up with a tailor-made training programme for the world No. 16 after carefully observing his performances in the upcoming tournaments.

"I have not coached Zii Jia yet in tournaments and I will see his performances first before planning his training programme," said Tat Meng.

"The tournaments that we are focusing on now are the Korean Open (July 18-23), Japan Open (July 25-30) and Australian Open (Aug 1-6)."
