PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, fresh from winning the Taiwan Open last month, have vowed not to rest on their laurels as they continue to aim for better achievements.
And their motivation is even stronger now after they were appointed 100PLUS brand ambassadors yesterday.
“The Taiwan Open is a Super 300 win and we’re very happy about it but there is more to achieve. We have not won in the Super 500, 750, and 1000 tournaments yet,” said Tang Jie.
“There’s no substitute for hard work and discipline, and I always remind myself to stay humble.
Since their pairing last year in December, Tang Jie-Ee Wei has rocketed from No. 272 to No. 14 in the world rankings but their journey has not been a bed of roses.
“Honestly, we didn’t expect to rise so fast. Although it looks like a smooth progression, in reality we had some heated arguments and went through a lot in the last seven months,” said Tang Jie.
However, thanks to their coach Nova Widianto, the duo have kept up their momentum.
“We have a strong fighting spirit to win and persevere. I have confidence in my partner and myself; we trust and believe in each other,” said Tang Jie.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei are now training hard to prepare for the upcoming Korean Open from July 18-23.
They will take on world No. 8 compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai in the first round.
“We used to train with them, so they know our game. As our seniors, we respect them but when we meet in court, we will give our best to beat them,’’ added Tang Jie.
Yesterday, Tang Jie-Ee Wei signed a two-year sponsorship with 100Plus, joining Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia, Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan, M. Thinaah and Ng Tze Yong as brand ambassadors.
“We are grateful for the sponsorship. This will motivate and encourage us to achieve better results, and we are thankful that the brand has confidence in us,” said Tang Jie.
