Chong Wei: Rest in peace my brother Ah Gan

PETALING JAYA: So long, my brother... Ah Gan.

Datuk Lee Chong Wei penned down a heartfelt tribute to former doubles shuttler Gan Teik Chai, who passed away yesterday. He was 40.

It was learnt that Teik Chai suffered a heart attack.

“Ah Gan was not just a friend; he was family to me. I will be always grateful for the countless memories we had shared together,” said Chong Wei, who knew Teik Chai since they were junior players.

“We met since we were 12. From the classes to the training and tournaments that we competed together, every moment spent with Teik Chai was filled with laughter, joy and unconditional love.

“To Ah Gan’s family, I extend my deepest condolences.”

Teik Chai is one of the most versatile doubles player, having played with many partners – for almost a decade before leaving the national team in 2013.

He won the 2004 French International with Koo Kien Keat; had won several international titles, including the 2012 Australian Open with Tan Bin Shen, and did well to lift a few international titles with Ong Soon Hock.
