Misbun to decide soon on his return to BAM

PETALING JAYA: Expect Datuk Misbun Sidek (pic) to make a decision soon on returning to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Misbun has received an official letter from BAM offering him his old position as national junior development director.

“Misbun has received the offer letter from BAM,” confirmed the 63-year-old’s personal assistant Nor Kamal Ahmad.

“He will respond to BAM as soon as possible.”

Earlier, Kamal had said that Misbun will accept the offer once he was satisfied with the terms and conditions set by the national body.

BAM had ended Misbun’s stint prematurely recently instead of allowing him to complete his contract at the end of the year.

The dismissal came following the junior squad’s failure to win any medals at the Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta last month.

Misbun had been slighted at the manner of his sacking merely two months before the World Junior Championships from Sept 25-Oct 8 in the United States and aired his grievances to the media.

BAM led by president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria then performed a U-turn by apologising and recalling Misbun to the national fold.

Meanwhile, BAM are looking to beef up the junior department by hiring a singles and a doubles coach.

“We are looking for coaches to assist Under-15 and Under-14 coaches Alvin Chew and Ameer Zainuddin,” said outgoing Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) chief executive officer Michelle Chai, who is set to be re-hired as the national body’s administration director.
