A call for former players to run show in BAM

PETALING JAYA: One Sidek leaves but expect another to enter.

This is what former international Roslin Hashim predicts following the dismissal of Datuk Misbun Sidek as the national junior coaching director with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last month.

In a turn of event, Misbun has been asked to return to the BAM fold but Roslin is unsure whether that will happen.

Roslin however, thinks that Misbun’s younger brother Jalani can come into the picture not as a coach but as someone who can helm the national body. The BA of Malaysia will be looking for new president following Tan Sri Norza Zakaria’s decision to step down at the end of this year.

“Why not give a former player a chance to lead the national team,” said Roslin.

“Many former players are ready to contribute back but they do not get the chance.”

Roslin feels that a change was needed in the management so that Malaysians can enjoy better results in badminton at the world level.
