Tang Jie-Ee Wei pull off superb show to reach quarters in world c'ships

PETALING JAYA: Debutants Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei continued their brilliant run in the World Championships when they reached the mixed doubles quarter-finals in Copenhagen on Thursday.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei came from a game behind to beat seventh seeds Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue of France 20-22, 21-19, 21-12 in the third round which lasted for 74 minutes.

They will face the winners of the match between second seeds Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino of Japan and Indonesians Rehan Naufal-Lisa Ayu.

"We had nothing to lose and we were daring to fight all the way," said Tang Jie after the victory.

The world No. 17 Tang Jie-Ee Wei are the only Malaysian mixed pair left standing in the field.

World No. 10 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie failed to get past the third round stage when they lost 21-16, 21-18 to China pair Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin.

On Wednesday, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also crashed out in the second round.
