Zii Jia goes down fighting to Prannoy in Asiad quarters

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Lee Zii Jia's hopes of winning a medal in the Asian Games were dashed when he went down fighting 16-21, 23-21, 20-22 to India's world No. 7 HS Prannoy in a pulsating men's singles quarter final match at the Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou on Thursday (Oct 5).

World No. 16 Zii Jia came back from 18-20 down in the second game to win narrowly.

In the third game, it was the 25-year-old, who held match points at 20-18 but the 31-year-old Prannoy refused to give in and snatched four points in a row to come away with victory.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also missed out on a medal when they lost out 14-21, 21-23 to defending champions and world No. 1 Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong of China.
