Zii Jia survives scare in Odense


PETALING JAYA: Lee Zii Jia has advanced to the Denmark Open's second round after beating Belgian Julien Carraggi in Odense on Wednesday (Oct 18) night.

Zii Jia, the world No 11, dropped the first game before recovering to beat world No. 43 Carraggi 19-21, 21-15, 21-10 in a first round match that lasted 61 minutes.

The Malaysian had won his first title of the year when he captured the Arctic Open in Vantaa, Finland on Sunday (June 15).

Zii Jia will take on world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who beat compatriot Magnus Johannesen 21-7, 21-9, in a second round clash later on Thursday.

In the women’s doubles, Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing crashed out in the first round after losing 18-21, 14-21 to Zhang Shuxian-Zheng Yu of China in the first round.
