Tze Yong clears first round but Zii Jia bows out of Japan Masters

PETALING JAYA: Singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong reaches the second round of the Japan Masters but it's over for Lee Zii Jia.

Tze Yong defeated Wang Tzu-wei of Taiwan 21-12, 21-11 on Wednesday and will take on top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark next.

Professional shuttler Zii Jia, who announced his withdrawal from the Road to Gold on Tuesday, went down 18-21, 20-22 to Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the first round.

There was also contrasting fortunes for Malaysia in the men's doubles as Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi cleared their opening round after beating Taiwan's Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin 21-18, 21-14 but Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani's challenge have ended.

They lost 19-21, 14-21 to Rahmat Hidayat-Kevin Sanjaya of Indonesia.

It was a good day for Malaysia in the mixed doubles as Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie made it to the second round.
