Double delight as GLS Team bag men’s U-30 and mixed fun titles

PETALING JAYA: It was double joy for GLS Team after capturing two titles in the inaugural badminton 3V3 Total Energies x Li-Ning Cup Grand Finale.

Mohd Zahir, Mohd Amirul, and Ooi Zi Heng combined well to beat Team Adhoc’s Cheng Chee Tiong, Tee Siang Lun, and Yong Yo Chen 21-13, 21-12 in the men’s Under-30 final on Sunday, which was attended by former national stars Tan Boon Heong and Goh Liu Ying at Sunway Velocity.

Earlier, Zi Heng and Amirul, along with the younger Lee Kai Xun, had joined forces to secure the mixed fun title with a hard fought 17-21, 21-19, 21-19 win over RBA’s Soh Aik Yong, Ng Jin Ping, and Tew Zi Feng.

At least one player under the age of 15 had to compete in the mixed fun event.

In the men’s Above-30 final, Team Hou Hooi which had three former national players, Ng Kean Kok, Hong Chien Hun and Chow Pak Chuu, defeated Ang Teik Yang, Lim Chin Loon and Goh Chen Chai of MEBT 21-17, 21-18.In the mixed open category, where teams must field at least one female player, Sim Han Min, Tan Chew Ping, and Quah Aan Yang from Muar Star BC emerged champions after outplaying Smash X-Team’s Alvin Chan, Kow Wui Keat and Amelia Yap 21-13, 21-10.

The champions in all four categories received RM12,000 along with RM9,000 worth of products while the runners-up took home RM6,000 coupled with an additional RM4,500 worth of products.
