Hon Jian-Haikal capture Syed Modi International title

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles shuttlers Choong Hon Jian-Mohd Haikal Nazri have captured their maiden title together at the World Tour Super 300 Syed Modi International.

Hon Jian-Haikal, who were only paired together in August, stunned Japan's world No. 16 Akira Koga-Taichi Saito 18-21, 21-18, 21-16 in a thrilling final in Lucknow, India on Sunday (Dec 3).

World No. 93 Hon Jian-Haikal showed great fighting spirit and determination to come from behind to beat their higher-ranked opponents.

The victory crowned a great week for the national pair after they had also toppled Germany's world No. 24 Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel and England's world No. 23 Ben Lane-Sean Vendy on their way to the final.

Hon Jian-Haikal's previous best achievement was finishing runners-up at the Super 100 Indonesian Masters in October.
