Winless day for Malaysia at the World Tour Finals

PETALING JAYA: It was a dull day for Malaysia at the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou when men’s doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei lost their opening matches on Wednesday (Dec 13).

World No. 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik were beaten 16-21, 21-14, 18-21 by Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in a Group A match.

Aaron-Wooi Yik, the 2022 world champions, will meet China’s world No. 1 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang in the second group match on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Tang Jie-Ee Wei also failed to lift their performance after losing 10-21, 13-21 to Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping of China in Group A.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino of Japan in their second group match.

Top two players or pairs from each group will advance to the semi-finals to be held on Saturday (Dec 16).
